Welcome To A12 Noise ActionWelcome to the campaign for noise mitigation measures on the A12 in Brentwood. UPDATE: 25.01.12 BETTER NEWS..... Karen says: "The Highways Agency called me a couple of days ago to say that if we put up a good case for noise mitigation measures then we stand a chance. I'll be working on a number of ways we can do this but, in the meantime, keep writing in those template letters!"
UPDATE: 11.01.12 HIGHWAYS AGENCY SAY NO The Highways Agency have now informed us that no measures will be put in before 2021. This is devastating news for residents and we have asked for clarification. They have NEVER answered the question about the noise increase when the road was re-surfaced and now they cite THIS as the reason to make residents wait THIRTEEN YEARS for mitigation measures. Keep checking this website for updates. Karen Chilvers
Residents of the South Weald/Homesteads area of Brentwood appreciate that they will experience a certain amount of noise, situated so near to the A12 but in recent years, after the agency raised the road and failed to install any proper sound barriers, this has become unbearable.
What's more, the Highways Agency and Defra agree. On 16th May 2008 Defra named it as a "First Priority" area for noise mitigation and, on 14th October 2010, a senior Highways Agency Officer admitted “We know we have a problem and we know we have to address it*.” *But not until 2015. This is not good enough - let's try and get action sooner, not almost eight years after the issue was formally identified. |
